As of January 2001 the Centro Nacional de Cultura (National Cultural Centre) is the Liaison Office of the European Heritage Days’ programme, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
The aim of the EHD programme is to increase public awareness of the importance of heritage, and to awaken the interest of young Europeans in their common history.
European Heritage Days are held yearly in September in 47 participating countries. They take various forms including “open door” initiatives that allow the public access to places that are normally closed, or to cross-border cooperation projects that emphasize a European dimension.
EHD grants are attributed to support training and cooperation between member-countries.
